Meeting History

Nov 14, 2017 4:00 PM  Budget, Capital and Personnel Committee Regular Meeting

Mr. Sigler requested to abstain from voting as he will likely be applying for some of the funds.

Mrs. McBean-Clairborne asked for more information concerning the project “China Welcome”. Mr. Hall said he worked with the Planning and Sustainability Department on the “China Welcome” initiative. He said Cornell is growing substantially and this community is globally welcoming. “China Welcome” is a pilot program to help visitors and new residents to Ithaca by making the community in a better position to meet their needs and as welcoming as possible. He said a community conference will be held to develop a plan to address some of the issues that currently exist that have been identified.

Mr. Knipe further explained and provided more detail and said the conference is a follow-up to the one-on-one consultations with cultural experts where specific areas were identified that could be improved and to assist in hospitality in the retail and commercial sectors. The intent is to reach out to anyone and everyone that may come into contact with Chinese visitors to be able to provide them with direct assistance.
