Dec 7, 2017 3:00 PM  Planning, Development, and Environmental Quality Committee Regular Meeting

Ms. Borgella provided a brief report on the following:

· Clean Energy Communities Grant - Ms. Borgella stated Tompkins County has been awarded the Clean Energy Communities Grant from New York State (NYSERDA) in two parts for a total amount of $250,000 over a three-year period. The first half will be used to build the energy navigator program and to hire a Senior Planner with energy skill to fill the position of Energy Navigator and once the contract with NYSERDA is signed she will begin the process of filling the position. The second half will be used to review the current County fleet, maximize its efficiency, and purchase electric vehicles and charging stations.

· Deputy Commissioner of Planning and Sustainability - Ms. Borgella said the Deputy Commissioner’s position has been advertised including nationally.

· Principal Planner/Tourism Director - Ms. Borgella explained that this position will be advertised at the same time as the Deputy Commissioner position. She would like to have the positions filled in February and noted that both positions are promotional opportunities within the Department and once they are filled she will continue to fill other positions.

· Office Renovations - Ms. Borgella said the Department is in the final stages of budgeting for the office-space furnishings and will be finalizing an agreement in the near future with the company that they will be working with. The basement renovations hit a stumbling block because the plans were to do it internally through the Facilities Department but there have been a number of other items that have come up in other County facilities that have taken staff away from the project. Facilities Department received an estimate to complete the work by an outside company and it came in higher than anticipated. She said at this time they are in the process of figuring out how to proceed. Ms. Borgella stated the plan does include one public entrance to the building which will be the same as the entrance to the Legislature and handicapped accessible.
