Mr. Lane reported at the end of the year there may be some special committee meetings that will be necessary before new committees are named. He suggested that incoming Legislators take the place of the Legislator they are replacing and fill in until those committees are established. Mr. Lane announced Ms. Younger, Interim County Administrator, will be leaving in January; County Attorney Jonathan Wood will be filling the position of Interim County Administrator during the transition. Mr. Lane thanked Department Heads for stepping up during the time of transition in County Administration. In particular, he thanked the staff of County Administration. Mr. Lane said at the Bicentennial Commission’s last meeting the Chief of the Cayuga Nation was present to speak and discussed how they could be recognized in the program. The discussion included asking the City to allow signs with the word “Cayuga” in actual Cayuga language spelled out on Cayuga Street. The Commission is also looking at other possibilities such as a long-term presence in the form of a permanent exhibit honoring the Cayuga Haudenosaunee Nations at Stewart Park. Mr. Lane announced the Poet Laureate, Zee Zahava, will serve a second term for 2018 and will be invited to the Organizational meeting for a reading. |
